I Recently Tried on Zara's Linen Trousers—Here’s Why They’re Quickly Taking the Place of My Jeans.

      I've spent a significant portion of my adult life looking for the ideal pair of linen trousers. Being petite with an hourglass figure, I've learned to appreciate my body, yet finding trousers remains a challenge. Often, pairs that fit well at the hips are too large at the waist, while those that fit snugly at the midriff tend to cling to my thighs. It's a never-ending battle. However, I remain optimistic and have never lost hope of discovering my perfect fit. That's when I found Zara's new linen trousers.

      Linen trousers truly shine at this time of year, consistently being a summer staple, so their absence in my wardrobe has always been noticeable. But this year is different. As part of our biannual series, The Great Try On, I visited my local Zara store to try on their new-season collection, where I unexpectedly found a pair of cream wide-leg, darted trousers made from linen. They looked stylish on the hanger—heavier than typical linen trousers found on the high street, giving them a more upscale appearance. Although I anticipated they might be a bit long for my 5'3" height—as is the case with most Zara trousers—I consider it less of an issue since it's easier for me to shorten them than it is for someone needing extra length to add it.

      Now, let’s discuss the fitting room experience. The moment I slipped into these linen trousers, I knew I had found a winner. I selected a medium (I tend to fluctuate between a medium and an extra large in Zara trousers), and was delighted to find they fit perfectly. They hugged my waist just right, were comfortably loose around the hips and backside without looking oversized, and the legs elegantly skimmed over my shapely thighs, creating a lengthening effect. I paired them with chunky wooden-sole platforms I also found in the store, which made the trousers graze the floor—I might want to shorten them a bit, but some of you may find the length just right.

      What no one knew was that I was 10 weeks pregnant and experiencing bloating. It took me many tries to find items that fit without emphasizing my growing belly, and these trousers were the best of the lot—further proof of their excellent fit and design. The only reason I didn’t buy them was because I know I have more growing to do, but I can't stop thinking about them. I'm considering purchasing a larger size so that I can wear them for part of summer 2025, and potentially have them tailored later.

      After years of hesitating to try on linen trousers, particularly at Zara where my previous experiences weren’t always positive, I’m glad I didn’t overlook this pair.
