I’m a fashion editor with a passion for jewelry—here are the six lesser-known brands poised to take over this year.
If there's one thing I adore in this world, it's uncovering lesser-known brands that deserve attention—especially in the realm of jewellery. I appreciate jewellery because it's the simplest way to enhance or simplify any outfit; the right piece can elevate your style, make a statement, and bring everything together. For a time, finding brands I genuinely liked felt like maneuvering through a minefield. Every other Instagram advertisement featured yet another so-called 'best jewellery label,' all promising the same trifecta: durability, quality, and style. This is where the real difficulty arose—how do you determine where to invest your money when they all sound identical?
Once dominated by two extremes—the budget-friendly and the luxury—the jewellery market has now expanded, making room for a wave of fresh, stylish brands that cater to various price ranges and aesthetic tastes. Names like Cartier, Van Cleef, and Tiffany remain classic choices for timeless, high-quality pieces. However, there are many exciting, lesser-known brands that possess all the credentials to earn a spot in your capsule collection. That's where I come in.
Below, I've compiled a selection of some of my favorite slightly lesser-known jewellery brands. You may have encountered a few of them before, but I hope you'll also discover something new that piques your interest. Enjoy!
What are the different types of jewellery?
Costume jewellery: Commonly referred to as fashion jewellery, this category typically spans from a few pounds to a couple of hundred. Often made from more affordable base materials like brass, copper, or nickel, these pieces are designed to replicate the appearance of fine jewellery—without the hefty price tag. With a vast array of styles available, you can find almost anything that appeals to you. I find this type of jewellery particularly useful for creating a specific look or trying out a vibe before committing to a more lasting investment piece.
Demi-fine jewellery: Situated between fashion jewellery and fine jewellery, demi-fine jewellery offers the perfect mixture of affordable luxury. These pieces are made from high-quality metals such as sterling silver, 14-karat gold, or 18-karat gold-plated vermeil, often featuring semi-precious stones like rose quartz, opal, amethyst, and more. They provide the durability and longevity that costume jewellery often lacks—without being overly expensive. These items form the foundation of my capsule collection and are what I regularly reach for in my daily styling.
Fine jewellery: The pinnacle of jewellery. Designer pieces are crafted from precious metals such as 14k, 18k, or 22k gold (available in white, yellow, or rose tones), platinum, and sterling silver. They often showcase genuine gemstones like diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and other highly sought-after stones. With a broad price range, this is ideal for celebrating milestones, commemorating special events, or investing in a piece that can endure for a lifetime.
Explore the Niche Jewellery Brands I Adore:
1. MAYA BRENNER
Style Notes: Established for two decades, this brand was built on the concept of merging timeless, classic pieces with a whimsical touch. Admired by American celebrities including Meghan Markle, Nina Dobrev, and Alessandra Ambrosio, its designs are often referred to as “a piece to protect your peace,” as actress Abigail Spencer puts it. Spencer collaborated with Brenner on the bestselling Retreat necklace collection. Known among celebrities but not the general public, Maya Brenner jewellery is noteworthy for its personalized pieces, which incorporate semi-precious stones and feature an ‘Add-a-Letter’ option, allowing you to send the necklace back to add another charm. This thoughtful design deepens your connection to the piece and establishes its status as a modern heirloom.
2. Scandivv The Label
Style Notes: Owned by Robin—known as Scandivv, a social media influencer with an audience of over 700K followers—Scandivv the Label represents the motto “the bigger, the better.” Embracing the nostalgic charm of '70s boho-chic jewellery, the brand taps into the vintage-inspired trinket trend that has become popular throughout the fashion world, especially following the much-anticipated Chloé SS25 show. Cord necklaces with bold pendants are the must-have item this summer, making it a great opportunity to get involved without overspending.
3. TEA AND TEQUILA
Style Notes: If you appreciate intricate details and thoughtful touches in each design—and care about your environmental footprint—then Tea and Tequila could be the brand for you. Co-founded by friends Sarah Goodwin and Millie Bellville, the brand effortlessly combines Mexico City’s rich crafting heritage with London’s modern design to produce pieces that are uniquely charming yet highly wearable. Featured on London trendsetters like Olivia Neill and Mia Regan, the brand’s aesthetic playfully nods to the quirky jewels showcased in recent spring collections at Saint Laurent and Valentino.
