This new high-tech blemish eliminator cleared my acne in just two weeks.
There is a new high-tech solution for dealing with acne that doesn't require creams, developed by Ziip Beauty founder Melanie Simon. As someone prone to acne and a big admirer of Simon's work, I felt compelled to try her latest compact zit-zapping device, appropriately named the Dot due to its round shape. Simon is an innovator in her field as an electrical aesthetician, having likely crafted an electrical waveform for nearly any skin issue. Similar to Ziip's Halo device ($400), the Dot employs specially designed electrical microcurrent and nanocurrent waveforms, but it specifically provides an acne-fighting charge that helps improve skin over time. I have been a devoted user of Halo for several years, and it has significantly impacted fine lines, puffiness, under-eye bags, acne, dark circles, and overall tone for me. Although it is expensive, I always tell beauty lovers that this is the one device to invest in if they want to elevate their beauty regimen. With the arrival of Dot, I was eager to try it out and discuss with Simon how this device addresses the needs of acne-prone individuals. For more details about this remarkable little zit zapper and my experience using it, continue reading.
Fast Facts: -Treats blemishes in 90 seconds -Calms skin and reduces redness -Compact size -Can decrease acne lesions by 44% after 12 weeks -Rebalances your skin's microbiome; reduces inflammation.
How Does the Ziip Dot Treat Acne? If you're unfamiliar with Ziip's groundbreaking technology, Simon has developed a unique waveform called nanocurrent that is incorporated into all of its devices. "Nanocurrent works in concert with the body’s own electrical system, aligning with the natural energy that flows through the skin," Simon explains to Who What Wear. "When applied, it hastens the skin’s healing process significantly, benefiting everything from inflammation to signs of aging." During a previous conversation, Simon described nanocurrent as the signal that locks microcurrent into the skin, promoting the production of collagen and elastin. However, I was unaware that nanocurrent can also aid in acne treatment. Simon mentions, "In the Dot treatment, I specifically utilize nanocurrent to alleviate redness and dryness that typically follow a breakout, enhancing skin recovery more quickly and smoothly. Its versatility extends far beyond acne treatment. I also use it to help fill out hollow areas beneath the eyes or enhance the appearance of crepey skin around the mouth and under the chin. It’s truly an all-in-one waveform, and in the Dot, it perfectly complements the blemish-fighting power of the Problem Solver waveform."
It's important to point out that the Ziip Halo device includes a treatment known as Problem Solver, which essentially uses the same technology as Dot. Nonetheless, Dot is priced at half that of Halo and specifically targets acne, making it an excellent choice for those looking to save some money while addressing their acne concerns more seriously. Unlike Halo, which operates in conjunction with the Ziip app, Dot doesn't require any app and is perfect for quick use or travel.
Simon explains that acne blemishes possess a positive electrical charge. Therefore, along with nanocurrent, the Problem Solver microcurrent frequency in Dot suppresses blemishes with a negative frequency. The nanocurrent speeds up the skin’s natural healing process. When used consistently, they work together to clear acne and promote healthier, more resilient skin.
My Review of the Ziip Dot (Image credit: @shawnasimonee) I am accustomed to using Halo's Problem Solver frequency, but I should mention that when you apply the device over any active blemishes, you might experience a pinch or zap. While somewhat uncomfortable, it’s a sign that it’s doing its job. Upon receiving the device, I immediately appreciated its small size and ease of use. You simply apply the gel that comes with it, press the power button, and move it over the skin or targeted areas, and the device will turn off automatically after a brief session.
Having previously experienced Problem Solver, I found that after several uses, I no longer felt any zapping or tingling, indicating that there was nothing developing beneath the surface of my skin, which was a significant positive for me. You don’t necessarily need to use the device on your entire face, though you can if you have particularly acne-prone skin and want to be proactive about potential cycle-related breakouts or other future blemishes. I discovered that Dot is particularly effective for this purpose. Simon also advises thoroughly cleansing your skin post-treatment to eliminate any residual bacteria pulled from your pores during the session. As long as I followed this advice, I found it helped minimize any potential purging post-treatment.
To be candid, while I tend to lean towards a maximalist approach in beauty, I've been attempting to simplify my routine. I would recommend that if you already have a Halo device or are contemplating purchasing one, you should stick with it.
