In Spain, every fashionable woman has this top in several colors.
I have been fortunate enough to spend a significant part of the summer in Spain. While there, I observed what people around me were wearing. Spanish cities are not seen as fashion capitals and do not host extravagant fashion weeks. However, I believe many women in Spain dress with an effortless style that's hard to replicate. Their fashion is more relaxed than in Paris, less varied than in New York, and not as bold as in Milan. It's both sexy and understated, which is precisely the look I aspire to achieve every summer. It's often said that the Spanish prioritize living well, and I think this philosophy is reflected in their clothing choices. There’s an energetic practicality to their style.
One trend I quickly noticed this summer was that women in Barcelona, Madrid, and southern Spain were sporting studded tops. I assume this trend was sparked by the Spanish brand Gimaguas's studded bandana top, which sold out almost instantly. The brand even created a custom version in red for Rosalía to wear in the music video for her song "Omega."
To me, this type of top embodies everything I admire about Spanish fashion. It feels as lively as the people and incorporates a touch of uniqueness and texture without being overly complicated. You can wear it over a bikini with simple running shorts or pair it with a long silk skirt. Its versatility is a key aspect of Spanish dressing; you can easily enjoy a tinto de verano or take a siesta in it. It truly is a versatile going-out top that allows for various activities.
Every store—be it Mango, Zara, Gimaguas, or a local boutique—had some version of this top available, and I noticed many women buying several in different colors. I bought my first one at the Gimaguas shop in Barcelona. It's a black halter adorned with small circular and star-shaped studs, showcasing my midriff and a bit of my chest. It's perfect, though I never imagined needing it in other colors.
However, when I stepped into Mango the next day, I found myself drawn to a similar gray top. I didn’t even fully realize it until I admired it in the mirror and made the connection, but I chose to leave the store with it. In reality, that’s what the Spanish women around me would have done. When you find a simple top that works for everything, you have to seize the opportunity. You’ll definitely see me wearing them all year round.
