      In recent weeks, we've dedicated a considerable amount of time at the Who What Wear beauty desk to explore autumn hair trends. As a collective, we've seemingly spent every waking moment pinpointing the most significant beauty trends for the upcoming season—and let's be honest, hair is what we all really focus on during this time of year. Yes, change is on the way, with shifts in autumn hair color and even the possibility of trying out a short haircut for the season. While the rest of the beauty team eagerly tries out the latest emerging trends, I must admit that after nearly 12 years in the industry, I prefer to stick with what I know works for my hair. Generally, I've maintained the same middle-parted blonde balayage since I was 17, so I tend to view trend forecasting from a distance rather than through personal experimentation. However, this autumn, one particular hair color trend has captured my attention. As someone who draws much of her beauty inspiration from the dreamy, bohemian era of the late '60s and early '70s, I'm excited to share that there is an autumn hair trend I can fully embrace—introducing boho blonde.

      What Is Boho Blonde?

      Although typically associated with summer, the worn blonde trend of 2025 (which gives off a slightly dirty, grown-out appearance) has received an update for autumn. Boho blonde is currently making significant waves among some of the trendiest women I know.

      The key characteristics of boho blonde include ribbons of both cool- and warm-toned blonde throughout the lengths, a dark root smudge, contrasting caramel hues against icier tones, and, most importantly, the color should have a slightly disheveled elegance. What do I mean by that? Well, it’s all about the blend of the mousy roots and delicately painted sections of contrasting highlights and lowlights. Instead of a perfectly polished look (like the emerging socialite blonde trend from the '90s), boho blonde embodies the carefree essence of having a summer hair hangover. It’s as if you’ve spent the last three months exploring the desert and simply added a shine-boosting hair gloss upon your return for autumn. It’s undeniably effortless and stylish.
