Gen Z Will Be the Ones to Keep an Eye On in 2026 – Here Are the 5 Fashion Trends They Will Be Sporting.
Welcome to the Gen Z Mood, where I—Who What Wear UK's 27-year-old social media editor—share my monthly mood and the most exciting finds I've come across while scrolling. I'm constantly searching for fresh and budget-friendly ways to shop trends, and you're coming along for the ride. The mood: Trendsetting.
Social editor and Gen Z columnist Annie Wheatland showcases one of the top trends of 2026, featuring a stylish fluffy jacket from Topshop. Are we finished reflecting on 2025? With Spotify Wrapped completed, gifts unwrapped, and 'what I got for Christmas' TikToks making their way in, it’s time to shift our focus forward. The week between Christmas and New Year’s is perfect for contemplating what lies ahead (and indulging a bit too). I’ve been considering what 2026 holds for my focus area—Gen Z—and making some predictions (which are far more exciting than resolutions) about the five fashion trends they will embrace in 2026. Expect nostalgia (think Romy Mars' nod to millennial-favored Isabel Marant wedge sneakers), emerging cult brands, and a wealth of style inspiration for the new year. With our vision board in progress, scroll on to discover my predictions for the most significant Gen Z fashion trends of 2026.
1. Slouchy Silhouettes
After a decade of millennials opting for fitted waists and tailored cuts, Gen Z is ushering in a new era that favors comfort over structure. From boots to blouses, I've noticed style-savvy Gen Zs choosing slouchier, more relaxed styles. Tops are off-the-shoulder, waists are lowered, and outfits have a fluidity reminiscent of the early 2000s. This trend feels like it hails from the playbook of Mischa Barton/Paris Hilton—entirely silky and draped—making it ideal for thrift-loving Gen Zers exploring vintage shops and charity store aisles. This transformation hasn’t emerged by chance; beloved Gen Z brands like Isabella Vrana, Peachy Den, and Paloma Wool provide inspiration for this whimsical, modern aesthetic. Scroll down to shop the trend.

Paloma Wool
Sofre Roll Neck Knit Jumper
No one exemplifies effortless slouch like Paloma Wool, and their newly opened flagship London store in Mayfair is at the top of my must-visit list for 2026.
Isabella Vrana
The Hooked Top Cloud
In 2025, Isabella Vrana became a template for slinky styles and the Hooked Top continually sold out. I'm thrilled that it’s back in new colors, and this light lilac shade is perfect for spring.
Massimo Dutti
Asymmetric Skirt With Ruffles
This Massimo piece features lovely ruffles and a dropped waist that feel effortlessly beautiful.
2. Niche Fastenings
One thing you should know about Gen Z? They pay attention to details. As digital natives, they love a reference, especially if it’s obscure. They often develop a new ‘hyper-fixation’ weekly, and this season, I predict a focus on niche fastenings. From intricately detailed Chinese frog fastenings on trendy Mandarin jackets that soared during party season, to the rise of toggled shearling jackets in stores this winter, the youngest trendsetters on my for-you page are all in on this style, surpassing their millennial counterparts. A simple zip just won’t cut it.
Responsible for reviving military jackets and other similar vintage styles, it’s no surprise Gen Z is captivated by this trend. As the most resourceful generation, they find far more unique details and quirky fastenings in the vintage and second-hand market than in the millennial-favorite high street. Take Isabella Vrana’s viral hooked top, for instance—82 hook and eyes and 16 ways to style it? It's no wonder we're obsessed.

The Hooked Dress Ink
Having a dress you can wear in multiple ways is always a win.
This dark wash indigo is incredibly stylish, and the asymmetric fastening detail adds an impressive design element.
3. '90s Layers
Like the style icons of previous generations, Gen Z is not immune to ‘90s fashion. Although they typically lean towards a Y2K aesthetic, each season they find new elements from the romcom era to incorporate. This next trend might seem like a simple styling tip, but I’ve noticed Gen Z playing with it in their casual outfits, and it undeniably exudes ‘90s vibes. Layering T-shirts and tank tops is back, thanks to Mrs. Miuccia Prada (but when has that not been the case).
Topping spaghetti straps with pastel shades, layering T-shirts over long sleeves, and stacking vests have been key features in the coolest outfit combinations I’ve saved this season, and I anticipate we’ll
