Confirmed: The contentious sneaker trend you observed in the 2010s is set to make a comeback in 2026.
The fashion trends of the 2010s are making a comeback. Even the more divisive and controversial styles are resurfacing, regardless of our opinions. One trend that has appeared on my social media feeds and among my fashionable friends in NYC is wedge sneakers, and I'm still uncertain about my feelings towards them. If you’re a fan of Isabel Marant, you might find this trend exciting. The luxury fashion brand popularized this sneaker style in 2011, and it remained a favorite for several years thereafter.
Social media, especially fashion influencers, have been sharing throwback posts from the 2010s, which could be driving the resurgence of this trend among fashion enthusiasts. Unusual footwear had a resurgence last year, and wedge sneakers certainly belong to that category, continuing the trend of stylish yet quirky shoes. Regardless, the 2010s are back, with celebrities like Rachel Sennott casually rocking Puma’s latest fashionable version of the wedge sneaker trend, the Speedcat Wedge. It’s evident that the fashion crowd has embraced it, as those sneakers nearly sold out everywhere. Recently, Ottolinger’s F/W 24 collection showcased this trend paired with an office siren-style outfit, and it's been surfacing frequently on my Instagram feed.
I find it exciting when an unexpected fashion trend resurfaces. It’s fascinating to see how new generations interpret them. For instance, Gen Z star Tyla was seen sporting the trend with a jumpsuit. Her outfit harkened back to the early 2000s/2010s, but she gave the sneaker trend a fresh and modern twist, showing how you can put your own spin on it.
If you’re intrigued by this unexpected revival and want to give it a try, keep scrolling to shop various styles of wedge sneakers.
