The immersive art space LUMINAR presents a new multimedia show GAMEVERSE 3000, dedicated to the evolution of video games and progress in computer graphics.
GAMEVERSE 3000 is another project by the LUMINAR team in collaboration with the multimedia design studio radugadesign. The show reveals key milestones in the history of video games through a creative reinterpretation of iconic visual solutions from various gaming eras—from pixelated 8-bit aesthetics and early online games to modern detailed 3D worlds.
This is a large-scale interactive environment that engages people of all ages in the wonderful world of video games, where the history of gaming comes to life before their eyes through visual elements on the walls and floor. Each guest becomes not just an observer but the main character of the game.
“GAMEVERSE 3000 is a bright and high-tech project developed in collaboration with radugadesign. We aimed to emphasize the role of digital achievements in the development of culture and the entertainment industry. The new interactive show will transport visitors into the world of gaming, where every fan of computer games can find references to cult gaming projects,” said Karina Agadjanova, managing director of the LUMINAR art space.
The show covers 5 halls of the LUMINAR art space, each revealing important stages in the development of computer graphics and game design. The show is filled with gaming memes and hidden easter eggs that will be interesting to both experienced gamers and those who are just beginning to explore gaming culture.
In the main projection hall “World,” interactive games and experiences are showcased, as well as a dynamic system of constantly changing animated backgrounds—artistic interpretations of iconic visual images from different gaming eras. The walls create a chronology of the development of video games: from pixel graphics and early network projects to the rich three-dimensional universes of our days. Between the main scenes, there are technological inserts revealing the secrets of CG production—the audience sees how individual elements of computer graphics layer on top of each other to form the final image.
“One of the key tasks of the joint project in the LUMINAR art space was to develop an interactive system for the ‘World’ hall, inspired by the aesthetics of early video games and classic arcade machines. We created a unique solution based on TouchDesigner and stereo cameras LED 2i, turning the hall floor into an interactive surface with virtual buttons that respond to the movement of visitors. The main challenge was the seamless integration into the existing architecture and ensuring high accuracy of recognition, which we achieved through the development of a custom camera calibration system for content adaptation,” said the radugadesign team.
Guests can expect dynamic games that create an exciting entertainment experience with an emphasis on interactivity and visual effects. Visitors will need to show ingenuity by unlocking complex locks, interacting with characters, and launching a spaceship to distant stars.
As part of the GAMEVERSE 3000 show, four interactive games are presented:
“Colors” is a multiplayer game where viewers need to outsmart characters and splash them with paint;
“Esher’s Universe” is a first-person runner set inside a portable console in Y2K aesthetics;
“Doors” is a puzzle where participants must collaboratively untangle virtual cables to open a door with seven locks;
“Race2Space” is a text quest where viewers must send a spaceship into space and transform it into a robot. GAMEVERSE 3000 is a space of freedom and experimentation that unites generations: the show will captivate both retro console fans and lovers of modern visual experiments. You can experience the new gaming reality and try interactive techniques starting March 20 at the immersive art space LUMINAR.
