6 Stylish Ways to Style a Bandana with Spring Approaching
I have a passion for bandanas—so much that I've created my own design called Daisies. They are versatile for a variety of activities such as riding, skiing, fishing, and completing various tasks! Plus, they pair beautifully with jeans. In fact, they seem tailor-made for denim. With Western style making a comeback, bandanas have become essential for our spring accessory collections. A great example is the recent collaboration between Lee and J.Crew, which highlights the cowgirl aesthetic. However, if rodeo isn't your preferred vibe, don’t worry—you can wear a bandana in numerous stylish ways, both on the ranch and beyond. Here are six chic methods to sport a classic cotton bandana:
1. **The Twist and Tie**
It's quite straightforward: fold the opposing corners toward the center and keep folding until you form a long band resembling a necktie. then twist it tightly—tighter than you might expect—so it appears like a rope. Wrap it around your neck once and secure it with a double knot. It should hang loosely like a necklace.
*Pro tip:* Spray your bandana with your favorite fragrance; it will retain the scent for days until you wash it.
2. **The Mini Cape**
Start by folding your bandana into a triangle. With the apex facing your back, tie the bandana around your neck with the knot in front. I prefer wearing it over a lightweight denim shirt or jacket, fully buttoned, with the collar folded over the mini cape-like scarf.
3. **The Wrangler's Way**
This is the most traditionally Western style. Fold the bandana into a triangle, then take the longest edge and fold it again, making a fold that is about three inches wide. With the apex in front, tie it at the back of your neck—just don’t make it too tight! You can layer a necklace over it for an added touch.
4. **Charmed**
For this style, you'll need one of the Daisies bandanas, which comes with a Signature Anchor Charm that you can attach to the buttonhole sewn into one corner. After attaching the charm, form the bandana into the "twist and tie" rope shape (refer to No. 1), wrap it around your neck, thread the loose end through the charm, and tie a small knot around the "necklace" you've created. Adjust it so that the tip points downward, and position the charm so that it's visible at the neck. It may sound complicated, but it’s quite simple!
5. **Put a Ring on It**
For this method, you’ll need a ring—size 5 or smaller, depending on the thickness of your bandana—to secure it. The ring must fit snugly to prevent slipping. Just follow the image for easy guidance.
6. **The Headbander**
Achieve the chic look that Carolyn Bessette Kennedy popularized by tying a triangular bandana around your head. Note: The CBK style sits high behind the hairline and has more of a peasant vibe than pirate. I prefer tying it straight across the forehead with the ears tucked in. Both styles can be lovely and provide a great alternative to hiding your hair under a baseball cap.
