If you’re involved in the skincare sector, it’s likely that Cocokind is not only familiar to you but also occupies a spot on your bathroom shelf. Priscilla Tsai, the founder and CEO of Cocokind, prioritized creating a conscious skincare brand that is plant-based, sustainable, affordable, and cruelty-free during today’s skincare landscape.

Before leading Cocokind and becoming a key voice in the skincare arena, Tsai began her career in finance. After graduating from The Wharton School with a degree in Finance and Accounting, she secured a role at J.P. Morgan on Wall Street. While thriving in the pressures of finance, she quietly started to nurture her skincare vision on the side. In 2014, Tsai made a bold decision to leave her stable corporate position and devote herself fully to Cocokind.

The inception of Cocokind traces back to Tsai’s teenage years when she struggled with hormonal acne. Disappointed by the lack of gentle and effective solutions, she resolved to create the products she wished had been available during her own challenges, which eventually led to the establishment of Cocokind.

From the beginning, Tsai envisioned Cocokind as a community-centric brand. She utilized social media to engage directly with customers, sharing honest stories and addressing real skincare issues. This genuine strategy helped her build a dedicated and engaged customer community that felt truly supported rather than targeted by conventional advertising. The brand achieved a significant retail milestone in 2019 when Target began offering Cocokind products. Three years later, in 2022, Ulta Beauty also embraced the brand. Today, Cocokind can be found in every Target and Ulta store nationwide, as well as at Whole Foods.

What sets Cocokind apart under Tsai’s direction is its “anti-aspirational” philosophy. Instead of promoting unrealistic beauty standards or heavily filtered images, Tsai emphasizes enabling individuals to feel secure and at ease in their own skin just the way they are.

Listen to the latest episode of Second Life to discover how Tsai has developed effective products and a brand that empowers all skin types.
