My Wellness Transformation Plan 12 Months Before My Wedding

Welcome to the official one-year countdown to my wedding (you know I had to make it about me!). I’m set to marry in August 2026, and I want these upcoming 12 months to be particularly meaningful. It’s not just about selecting flowers or stressing over RSVP lists; it’s about becoming the person I’ll be proud to look back on after the day.

Let’s acknowledge the obvious: At some point, getting ready for your wedding has become linked with diet restrictions, excessive workouts, and spending lots of money on skincare. I’m not here to criticize anyone who feels empowered by transforming their body, but when I envision my wedding, I don’t focus on how toned my arms are or whether my jawline looks sharp in photographs. I see myself laughing with my partner, crying during my vows, and dancing until my feet hurt. I want to be present. I’m aware that if I spend the next year obsessively managing every detail of my body image, that mindset will carry over into the one moment I want to fully enjoy.

"This isn’t about my wedding being the best day of my life—it’s about using this milestone as a chance to become the woman I want to be for the future."

There’s a significant difference between prioritizing health for your own sake versus doing it because you feel pressured to be smaller, more toned, or flawless to be deemed a worthy bride. This journey isn’t focused on appearances; it’s about being present, energized, clear-headed, and well so I can feel great on my wedding day and, more importantly, throughout my life.

While preparing a year out may seem excessive, it’s not about rushing into a last-minute transformation. I don’t want to push myself into a frantic glow-up. I aim for a year that feels spacious and nourishing to my body—not in pursuit of a target weight, but because I want to feel energized, grounded, and clear. This isn't about making my wedding the pinnacle of my life; it's about using this milestone as motivation to evolve into the woman I aspire to be long after the day has passed. So, whether you are also in your bridal phase or just looking to become your best self, here is my wellness routine, one year before I say "I do."

      **Exercise**

These routines help me feel more energetic and connected to my body, which is exactly the version of myself I want to embody on my wedding day.

      **Walking as a Top Priority**

I understand that walking might not seem revolutionary. But if you could encapsulate the benefits of walking into a supplement, it would surely be the best-selling wellness product. Walking is gentle on your nervous system; it doesn’t spike cortisol levels like more rigorous workouts (in fact, it can help lower cortisol); it aids detoxification through lymphatic drainage; and it provides both cardiovascular and muscular benefits. For fat loss, it’s one of the most effective forms of exercise I’ve encountered; it also enhances bone health. Additionally, walking after meals helps stabilize glucose levels and aids digestion. Walking outside offers vitamin D from the sun and helps regulate your circadian rhythm for better energy and sleep. It truly is a miraculous exercise, completely free and enjoyable. Many days, I choose a 45-minute walk over a 45-minute gym session, knowing it often benefits me more.

**Megaformer Classes 2-3 Times a Week**

I attend Lagree or Megaformer classes two to three times weekly because I find this method most effective for strength training. Lagree is a low-impact, high-intensity fitness system that targets slow-twitch muscle fibers through slow, controlled movements that maintain constant tension. The Megaformer, which looks similar to a Pilates reformer, features moving platforms, springs, and resistance cables to elevate each movement and challenge balance, endurance, and strength simultaneously.

I typically participate in one full-body class, one focused on upper body and abs, and another concentrating on glutes and abs. This approach allows me to work on specific muscle groups while giving them time to recover, which can be more beneficial for strength than daily full-body workouts. I’m also emphasizing upper body workouts more than usual since upper body strength supports good posture (more on that later). While I attend classes at nearby studios, you can also replicate a Lagree-style workout at home with sliders (or socks/towels on hardwood floors) for exercises like lunges, planks, and pikes, mimicking Megaformer movements at a slow tempo. The key to Lagree is maintaining tempo, such as four seconds up and four seconds down, to optimize time under tension and effectively work the muscles.

**Dance Class 1-2 Times a Week**

I take a dance class once or twice a week, primarily for joy (though dancing is also an excellent workout). The most effective form of movement is that which feels natural to your body, and for me, that's dance. It’s not about calorie burning or muscle sculpting
