My Glow-Up Wellness Routine 12 Months Before My Wedding

Welcome to the official one-year countdown to my wedding (you know I couldn’t resist making this about me!). I’m set to wed in August 2026, and I aim for these next 12 months to be deeply meaningful. This journey isn't solely about selecting flowers or fixating on RSVP lists; it's about evolving into the version of myself that I’ll look back on and feel proud of.

Let’s acknowledge the obvious: At some point, wedding preparations became tied to restricting carbs, over-exercising, and spending thousands on skincare treatments. I’m not here to criticize anyone who feels empowered by altering their body, but when I envision my wedding, my mind isn’t on the definition of my arms or the sharpness of my jawline in photos. I see myself laughing with my partner, shedding tears during my vows, and dancing until my feet ache. I want to be fully present. And I understand that if I spend the next year fixated on micro-managing every aspect of my appearance, I’ll carry that mindset into the very moment I wish to be completely engaged in.

“This isn't about making my wedding the best day of my life; it’s about using this milestone to become the woman I aspire to be for the long haul.”

There’s a significant distinction between prioritizing your health for your own sake and doing so because you’ve internalized the notion that you must be smaller, more toned, or flawless to qualify as a bride. This is not about appearance; it’s about being present, energized, clear, and well so that I can feel my absolute best on this special day and (more importantly) throughout my life.

I recognize that "preparing" a year out might seem excessive, but this isn’t about a last-minute crash overhaul. I don’t want to force myself into transformation mode. I desire this year to feel open and to treat my body in ways that are uplifting—not driven by the pursuit of a target weight, but motivated by a wish to feel energized, stable, and clear. This journey is not about my wedding being the highlight of my life—it’s about using this moment to grow into the woman I want to be forever. So whether you’re also in your bridal phase or simply eager to step into your best self, here’s my wellness routine, one year before my wedding.

      **Exercise**

These routines have enabled me to feel more energized and connected to my body, which is precisely the version of me I want to embody on my wedding day.

      **Walking as a Priority**

I understand—walking may not seem revolutionary. However, if the benefits of walking could be bottled, it would be the number one wellness product ever. Walking is gentle on your nervous system, it doesn't raise your cortisol levels like more vigorous workouts (in fact, it can help reduce cortisol); it fosters detoxification through lymphatic drainage; it provides cardiovascular and muscle benefits; it's proven to be the most effective exercise for fat loss; it enhances bone health; and walking after meals helps stabilize blood sugar and aids digestion. Additionally, walking outdoors gives you vitamin D from sunlight and helps regulate your circadian rhythm for improved energy and sleep. It's truly a miraculous form of exercise, entirely free and enjoyable. Nowadays, I often choose a 45-minute walk as my workout instead of a 45-minute gym session, knowing it often serves me better.

**Megaformer Classes 2-3 Times a Week**

I’ve been attending Lagree or Megaformer classes two to three times weekly, as I’ve found it to be the most effective strength training for me. Lagree is a low-impact, high-intensity workout method aimed at targeting slow-twitch muscle fibers through controlled, slow movements that keep muscles in constant tension. Typically, Megaformer workouts are on a machine that resembles a Pilates reformer, equipped with moving platforms, springs, and resistance cables to intensify each movement while challenging balance, endurance, and strength simultaneously.

I attend one full-body class, one class focusing on the upper body and abs, and one that hones in on glutes and abs. This approach allows me to concentrate on specific muscle groups and give them adequate recovery time, which can be more beneficial for strength development than daily full-body workouts. I’m also placing greater emphasis on upper body strength, as it aids in posture (more on that later). While I go to local studio classes, you can replicate a Lagree-style workout at home using sliders (or socks/towels on hardwood floors) for lunges, planks, and pikes, and focus on slow movements; tempo is key to Lagree (e.g., four seconds up, four seconds down) for building time under tension and maximizing muscle fatigue.

**Dance Class 1-2 Times a Week**

I take a dance class once or twice a week primarily for joy (though dancing is also an excellent workout). The most effective movement
