I’m hosting a bridal shower in both NYC and L.A.—here’s what I’ll be wearing in each location (and what…

Sara Walker is a fashion consultant, stylist, content creator, and editor in residence at Who What Wear, based in Los Angeles. I feel incredibly fortunate to be having not one, but two bridal showers. I didn't expect to have any, but my aunt in New York City and my best friend in L.A. both volunteered to host, and I certainly don’t need a reason to celebrate. So yes, two bridal showers: one focused on family in New York and another basking in the Malibu sun in Los Angeles.

Initially, I wasn’t committed to having a bridal shower for various reasons. While I enjoy celebrating love, it didn’t seem like a priority in the broader context of wedding planning. Time has flown by, and there are numerous logistics to consider—not to mention my friends and family are scattered across the country. Although I'm in L.A. and most of my friends are here, my family (and some of my closest friends) are on the East Coast. I also didn’t want anyone to feel pressured to travel for it. Fortunately, two amazing women in my life generously offered to host, allowing me to celebrate in two distinct ways, for which I'm incredibly grateful.

With this came two completely different styles for my outfits—something I’ve enjoyed contemplating.

      **NYC Bridal Shower**

My New York bridal shower has already taken place, and I had four fantastic choices: a watercolor Altuzarra dress (one of my favorite NYC designers!), a Liberowe fringe tweed mini, a Staud white mini with a matching coat, and a vintage Chanel suit from The RealReal. Each option felt uniquely “New York”—sophisticated, well-considered, and a bit more traditional. For this event, I embraced spring with soft pastels and a more polished, tailored look. I even considered a Ralph Lauren button-down paired with a pencil skirt, which felt very Upper East Side in the best way. My focus was more formal and classically bridal, emphasizing tailoring and timeless silhouettes.

**The Altuzarra Dress I Chose for My NYC Bridal Shower**

I ultimately decided on the watercolor Altuzarra dress. I initially leaned toward something more traditional and polished, but this dress struck the perfect balance—feminine and girly yet slightly unexpected with its soft wash of color. It still felt bridal but with added personality. I also appreciate Altuzarra as a New York brand, so wearing it in the city felt especially fitting and meaningful.

      - Polo Ralph Lauren Hemp Linen Coat

      - Liberowe Soho Tweed Fringe Minidress

      **L.A. Bridal Shower**

For my L.A. bridal shower, I took a completely different approach. I was drawn to texture, ease, prints, and a more relaxed, playful vibe. I’ve always believed that bridal attire can be casual yet captivating, especially in a place like Malibu where the atmosphere is more laid-back. One outfit I kept returning to was a structured Staud top paired with vintage Levi’s and chic white mules. The combination of something tailored with lived-in denim felt effortless yet intentional, which embodies L.A. style.

Another option I considered was a Dôen fringe dress. It was slightly dressier but still felt easy and romantic, especially styled with a heeled flip-flop for a surprising touch. I also thought about the “shark dress” from Staud. Although mostly white, it featured a subtle shark design along the side that I loved for its playful nature. After all, who wouldn’t want to wear a shark dress by the beach while sipping champagne with friends?

**The Jacquemus Dress I Chose for My L.A. Bridal Shower**

In the end, I selected a light pink Jacquemus dress. I aimed for something a bit more relaxed and slightly unconventional—steering away from anything too traditional or expected. While I explored various options, I ultimately chose something that felt effortless and authentic to me. It wasn’t white, which I appreciated, yet it still exuded a softness and femininity that felt right for the occasion. It struck a balance of being somewhat unexpected while remaining completely natural.

There were also a few other pieces in the mix that nearly made the final cut—some traditional bridal options and a few ultra-minimal looks—but I consistently gravitated back to outfits that resonated with my style in each setting. This has been my guiding principle throughout the process.

      - MANGO Halter-Neck Lace Top

      - The Attico Knitted Zebra-Print Minidress

Ultimately, planning these outfits made me realize how much style is influenced by location and mood. New York called for polished, classic, and slightly more formal attire, while L.A. encouraged a relaxed, playful, and somewhat unexpected twist on bridal dressing. I loved embracing each city’s
