Jeans and flip-flops have become the preferred outfit combination for fashion enthusiasts seeking a chic look with minimal effort. This pairing is effective due to the "wrong shoe theory," where the flip-flops, when worn unexpectedly, add a surprising touch that enhances the appeal of the jeans. Additionally, the easy, slip-on design of the shoes aligns perfectly with the laid-back nature of denim.
Take Elsa Hosk as an example. She shared a series of images featuring maternity outfits on Instagram, including a look with low-rise baggy jeans in a vintage wash. Hosk paired them with a plaid zip-up jacket and white thong wedge sandals. Her accessories—a white east-west Chanel bag and oversized sunglasses—were two trendy items that completed her ensemble.
In New York City, Zoey Deutch was seen this week in a similar casual denim getup. She sported a white ribbed tank top (similar to Kendall Jenner's preferred Hanes style) and low-rise cuffed jeans. For footwear, Deutch chose flat flip-flops and a Prada east-west bag, which is favored by celebrities, known as Bonnie.
That said, this doesn’t mean black flip-flops are no longer in style; rather, it indicates that white ones are currently the more fashionable choice. Just like the renewed trend of wearing white jeans after a long absence, these sandals offer a fresh, stylish surprise to outfits. While no one has asked for my opinion, I'm convinced by this combination. If I choose to wear jeans this summer, I'll opt for a baggy style paired with white flip-flops.
