No Suitcase, No Trainers—This is the Bag and Shoe Trend Fashionable Travelers Are Opting for at the Airport Instead.

Everything I've ever understood and believed about dressing for the airport can be summed up in two essentials: a dependable suitcase and a comfy pair of shoes. Beyond that, a neck pillow, a good book, and a phone filled with downloaded movies are optional, but a trustworthy travel bag and comfortable footwear? Those are essential. At least, in my opinion.

However, according to Dua Lipa, there are no strict guidelines for jet-setting. This week, the singer took to the skies without a wheeled suitcase or trainers in sight. Instead, she carried an oversized Chanel tote, large enough to accommodate the contents of a suitcase, but its lack of wheels makes navigating an airport significantly less convenient. In another questionable yet undeniably stylish decision, Dua also traded in the usual trainers—or even slip-on Uggs—for tall leather heeled boots. Paired with denim, this trouser-and-footwear combination defies traditional airport fashion rules, favoring in-flight elegance over practicality.

That being said, her outfit has its advantages. I have always viewed jeans as one of the smartest picks for airport wear, since a well-worn pair of denim can be as comfortable as softer trousers while looking much more polished. Moreover, her oversized Chanel bag provides ample space akin to a small suitcase, despite requiring a bit more effort to carry.

Undoubtedly one of the most stylish interpretations of airport attire I've seen recently, Dua's look makes me reconsider whether trainers and wheeled luggage are indeed the only practical choices. While I'm not planning to attempt a long-haul flight in heels anytime soon, I'll gladly draw inspiration from Dua for my future in-flight style choices.
