No Suitcase, No Trainers—This is the Bag and Shoe Trend That Fashionable Travelers Are Choosing for the Airport Instead.
Everything I’ve ever understood and believed about dressing for the airport can be reduced to two essentials: a dependable suitcase and comfy shoes. Beyond that, a neck pillow, an engaging book, and a phone with downloaded movies can be optional, but a sturdy travel bag and comfortable footwear are essential. At least, that’s how I see it. However, according to Dua Lipa, there aren’t strict rules when it comes to traveling in style. This week, the artist flew without a wheeled suitcase or a pair of sneakers in sight. Instead, she carried an oversized Chanel tote, whose ample size could easily accommodate the contents of a suitcase, though its lack of wheels complicates navigating through the airport.
In another bold but undeniably stylish choice, Dua opted for tall leather heeled boots instead of the usual sneakers or even comfy slip-on Uggs. Paired with denim, her trousers and footwear selection defies typical airport dressing norms, favoring in-flight elegance over practicality.
Nonetheless, her outfit does have its advantages. I’ve always believed that jeans are one of the best picks for airport attire, as a well-fitted pair can be just as cozy as softer pants while looking significantly more refined. Additionally, her large Chanel tote has ample space that rivals a small suitcase, even if it requires a bit more effort to carry.
Undoubtedly, her look is one of the coolest interpretations of airport dressing I’ve encountered in quite a while, leading me to question whether sneakers and wheeled luggage are truly the only sensible choices. While I might not be attempting a long-haul flight in heels soon, I will gladly take fashion cues from Dua for in-flight styling in the future.
