Changing his surname, parting with the dream of the Olympics, and gaining trust in the director: the cover star of the September issue of "KinoReporter," actor Sergey Gorodnichiy, shared his journey into the profession.
In the spring, actor of the Theater on Bronnaya and star of the series "Lily of the Valley. Such a Tender Love," Sergey Gorodnichy received the "Advance" award from the magazine "KinoReporter" as one of the most promising young actors in Russian cinema — the award was presented at the anniversary XV ceremony as part of the 48th Moscow International Film Festival. Now, the leading publication on domestic cinema features the artist in a lengthy interview — already in the status of a cover hero.
Sergey Gorodnichy candidly spoke about how he is experiencing his suddenly acquired popularity, why he consciously learns to refuse his own vision of a role, and how changing his surname helped him find his identity in the profession.
A separate topic of the interview is life after the success of "Lily of the Valley." According to the actor, along with recognition came not only more offers but also the fear of not meeting expectations.
"Popularity brings more offers. But it's both a plus and a minus. Before, one role would come — and it was exactly what was needed at that specific moment. Now I have to choose. It's more complicated," Gorodnichy admits.
Currently, he is working on four different projects, including the series "Dubrovsky. Russian Zorro" on the TV channel TV-3, where Gorodnichy played the grown-up Sasha Troekurov.
At the same time, the conversation goes far beyond cinema and theater. Gorodnichy elaborates on his seven years of practicing taekwondo and his unfulfilled dream of the Olympics, recalls moving from St. Petersburg to Moscow, from the Kupchino district of St. Petersburg to the Moscow Art Theater School. He also openly talks about the birth of his son Lev, his relationships with his parents, and the principles he wants to pass on to his own children.
