Andrey Sobolev's film "The Truth of Samantha Smith" won awards in 4 categories at the Moscow Fashion Film Festival.

      The short film tells the story of the 1980s, about how American schoolgirl Samantha Smith wrote a letter to Soviet leader Yuri Vladimirovich Andropov. After being invited to visit the USSR, she becomes the world's first child diplomat, a goodwill ambassador, contributes to the development of children's diplomacy and helps to stop the flywheel of the Cold War between the USSR and the United States. Samantha Smith's story ends tragically.



      On April 18, 2025, a screening of the film took place at the Fashion Film Festival in the Pioneer cinema, followed by an award ceremony. The film was presented by the creators, director Andrey Sobolev and the performer of the main role, actress Alina Babak.

      The film won awards in the following categories:



      Best Director — Andrey Sobolev

      Best Historical Film — "The Truth of Samantha Smith"

      Best Child Role — Alina Babak

      Best Movie Soundtrack – Dj Chris Parker



      "Ten years have passed since the filming of the film these days! It is especially significant for me that the screening of the film took place in the legendary cinema with the name "Pioneer". I thank the organizers in the person of Egor and Tatiana Rastorguev, and I thank the distinguished viewers for their appreciation of our work and such significant awards! I am especially pleased to receive the award "for the best soundtrack", unfortunately, composer Dj Chris Parker is no longer alive. He wrote great orchestral music, was very proud of our film work, and was pleased with our numerous screenings and audience responses. I recommend everyone to find the film on online platforms and wish you a pleasant viewing!" said director Andrey Sobolev.



      In the ten years since its release, the biopic about Samantha Smith has collected many prizes and awards. Among them are the "Best Screenplay" at the festival of spiritual and moral cinema for children and youth in memory of St. John of Kronstadt, "For the return of the legend of world Peace to the big Screen" of the patriotic art and documentary film festival "Man who knows the World" in Crimea, "For the role of Samantha Smith" — Aline Babak of the International children's film festival "Scarlet Sails of Artek". In 2016, Samantha Smith's film The Truth represented Russia at the Cannes Film Festival.
