Thanks to my position, I have the fortunate opportunity to converse with various hair professionals every day. From leading hairstylists to brand creators, I make it a point to gather opinions on the latest hair trends because, frankly, I wouldn't be an effective beauty journalist otherwise. As the temperature drops and the nights grow longer, many of us are starting to get ready for winter, which often leads to thoughts about our new seasonal looks. Whether you’ve found yourself searching for the best winter hair colors, top winter updos, or just the main winter hair trends to watch for, I'm here to update you on the most popular styles for the upcoming season. Naturally, I consulted one of the industry's leading experts for their thoughts, and below, I've outlined the top winter hair trends for 2025, thanks to Cos Sakkas, a three-time British Hairdresser of the Year and global creative director at TONI&GUY. So, what are you waiting for? Keep reading to find out which cuts and colors to note as December approaches...
**The 7 Biggest Winter Hair Trends 2025**
1. **The Ripped Bob**
Kicking things off is the effortlessly stylish 'ripped' bob. Sakkas describes this style as chic yet easy to maintain, embracing your natural texture and looking great when air-dried. If you prefer to use a few products while air drying, he suggests a sea salt spray to encourage movement and texture.

Sakkas recommends a sea salt spray as a great finishing touch.
Living Proof Full Dry Volume & Texture Spray is perfect for added volume.
2. **'90s Nostalgia**
Currently, I’m noticing a lot of ’90s-inspired, face-framing layers, and Sakkas believes this will be a major trend this winter. "There will be a strong desire for volume and texture; think ’90s nostalgia—retro bouncy blow-outs, or face-framing bed-head layers," he notes. "It’s less about one dominating over the other and more about choosing which vibe resonates with you—clean and refined, or big and bold.”
**Get the Look:**
The GHD Rise is excellent for creating salon-worthy styles, and I like to use this hot brush to curve my hair inward and highlight my '90s layers.
Babyliss Thermo-Ceramic Rollers are ideal for achieving a bouncy blowout.
3. **The Pixie**
"The pixie haircut is a flattering style that enhances cheekbones and can be customized to fit your hair type and face shape," Sakkas explains. "As we transition into a new season, expect to see more sophisticated versions of the pixie that feature layered, shattered fringes. As it grows out, play around with different textures and shapes; tuck one side behind your ear, change the parting, or add some texture on top."
**Get the Look:**
Use Moroccanoil Molding Cream to add texture and definition to your pixie, and Larry King Haircare's Flyaway With Me Kit to manage any flyaways.
4. **Face-Framing Colour**
Regarding color, Sakkas predicts that face-framing styles will be prominent this winter. He suggests trying a "lumi blush" look, which employs a balayage technique to create soft, blush-toned accents that highlight the face while subtly playing with light and shadow.
**Get the Look:**
For blonde face-framing highlights, I recommend using Olaplex No.4P Blonde Hair Hydrating and Brightening Purple Toning Shampoo to eliminate brassiness. Ouai Super Dry Shampoo in Melrose Place is also great for keeping the front of your hair looking fresh.
5. **The Shag**
"The shag is making a comeback," says Sakkas. "This winter, it’s characterized by serrated and seamless textures, feathered layers, and retro choppy waves. This adaptable style comes in various forms to suit nearly every hair type and texture, making it one of the season's standout trends. This cut embodies a rebellious spirit and has the power to completely change your look."
**Get the Look:**
Bouclème Curl Defining Gel enhances texture for shag hairstyles that look fantastic on curly hair types. Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray adds a luxurious finish.
6. **The Lob**
For those growing out their summer bob, the lob is the perfect transitional hairstyle. "The lob usually falls below the shoulders and is suitable for all hair types, especially thicker hair, but it can be customized for finer or thicker textures," Sakkas details. "It’s ideal for those wanting to go shorter while retaining some length."
**Get the Look:**
Use the Dyson Corrale™ Straightener for styling, and Color Wow Extra Mist-Ical Shine Spray for a shine boost on your lob.
