The Loves of My Life: Alexandra Roach
The most impactful interviews tend to be the ones that delve into personal reflections. In "Loves of My Life," we uncover the individual behind their artistry by asking all the pressing questions we’re eager to know—like their favorite restaurants and date-night venues, what’s saved in their Instagram folder, their most cherished piece of jewelry, and what resides at the bottom of their handbag. Essentially, we explore the true loves of their life.
Actor Alexandra Roach is recognized for her remarkable performances in productions such as "Utopia," "Nightsleeper," "No Offence," "The Iron Lady," "Killing Eve," "Black Mirror," "Hunderby," and "The Light in the Hall." She is quickly establishing herself as one of the most subtly powerful actresses in the industry. Her upcoming role in the adrenaline-pumping thriller series "Lazarus," where she stars as Jenna Lazarus, debuts today exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. We had the opportunity to speak with her prior to the premiere and pose all our inquisitive queries.
What is your top choice for a restaurant worldwide, and what would you order?
I reside in Bristol and travel frequently for work, so whenever I return, one of the first things I do is gather a group of friends, book a table at Pazzo, and order their carbonara. It’s incredibly tasty! The restaurant has such a warm family atmosphere, and we often stay for cocktails while catching up on everything I’ve missed during my time away.
Is there anything in your home that holds significant sentimental value for you?
I tend to be quite sentimental and have held onto various items over the years. I have boxes full of old journals and diaries from my teenage years that I love to revisit when I find them. My grandfather, who worked as a miner from a young age, started painting in watercolors in his 80s, and I have one of his pieces. It serves as a reminder that it's never too late to begin something new!
What might we discover at the bottom of your handbag?
I always carry a lipstick in my bag—even if I’m wearing little makeup, a splash of color lifts my spirits. Additionally, it makes for a perfect blush if the night extends. I adore Chanel Rouge Coco Flash 176 Escapade.
Who are the individuals that uplift you?
I've met some of the most amazing people on various dance floors over the years. Dancing is liberating, and sharing that love has truly helped me connect with my tribe. My friends in Bristol embody that spirit—being on the dance floor with these incredible individuals is my ultimate happy place.
What’s your idea of an ideal vacation—beachside, poolside, city exploration, or adventurous?
I once attended a food retreat in Athens with my best friend. We knew we needed quality time together, and nothing was better than three days of indulging in culinary delights around the city, discovering hidden gems known only to locals—cozy tavernas, lively wine bars, and trendy coffee shops—it was pure magic!
Do you possess a piece of jewelry that carries deep significance?
I have jewelry that belonged to both of my grandmothers, which I hold dear. Wearing it feels like a connection to them, and that makes it exceptionally special.
What are your top five essentials for your trailer on set?
Starting my day in the trailer, I love lighting a Boy Smells candle—it grounds me and has become a bit of a morning ritual. I always need my speaker nearby to listen to music while I prepare. The filming hours can be quite demanding, so I make sure to take my vitamins, especially during winter shoots. If I have a craving for something sweet, chocolate is a must, and I keep an eye mask for afternoon naps—I love the silk ones from Drowsy.
What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
Nature makes me happiest—whether it’s walking through the woods with music or curling up by the fire with a book and a glass of wine in the winter. Additionally, I love dancing with friends.
Which cinema in your hometown do you prefer?
Bristol boasts some fantastic cinemas. The Watershed screens art house films with a lovely view of the harbor, while the Cube, a smaller progressive venue in the city center, hosts a delightful array of well-curated events.
Do you have a favorite date-night location that’s somewhat of a secret?
I enjoy participating in activities for date nights rather than opting for the traditional sit-down dinner—perhaps life drawing followed by cocktails.
Is there a particular garment you would never part with? If so, why?
I possess a Roksanda dress that was custom tailored for my first-ever premiere of "The Iron Lady." It’s wrapped in precious memories, and I hope to pass it down to my daughter when she’s older.
