“Invisible” Nails Are Set to Trend—7 Variations That Celebrity Nail Artists Adore

While I enjoy bright colors for my summer manicures, I’ve recently noticed a rising trend that offers a refreshing approach to more subtle nail designs. My social media feed is overflowing with "invisible" nail styles, and I am loving it. With options like the invisible French manicure, sheer jelly nails, and soap nails, it’s evident that we are fully embracing a more understated aesthetic. I’m not alone in my appreciation for this trend; nail artists are also seeing a significant increase in requests for these styles, and they are happy about it.

Svitlana Motyl, an international nail artist, educator, and co-founder of Art Me Nails Studio in Chicago, explains, "This trend's popularity stems from its versatility and wearability. Invisible nails aren't about looking unfinished; they’re about achieving a clean and effortless look." Similarly, nail artist Olha Shtanhei compares this trend to the clean girl makeup aesthetic, which emphasizes a subtle flair rather than an extravagant appearance. "The aim is to create a manicure that enhances rather than decorates," she adds. "The focus isn’t on showcasing the product, the color, or the technique but on making the hands appear polished and well-maintained."

If you're looking for something simple yet unique, here are some current favorite invisible nail looks shared by nail artists.

      **Barely There Pink Nails**

Elle Gerstein, who has done manicures for stars like Anne Hathaway and Rihanna, favors a "barely there" pink shade to capture this trend. She shares that some of her most beloved understated manicures incorporate ultra-sheer pink shades with a touch of pearl chrome for a distinctive finish. To add an extra touch to a neutral pink, you might include 3D art or designs on the nails. “Some of my favorite understated manicures I’ve done included ultra-sheer pinks along with a hint of pearl chrome, soft rosy beige nails with a blurred French edge, and shiny natural short nails with virtually no visible color,” she explains. “They photograph beautifully and work on everyone." For an authentic "invisible" finish, Gerstein recommends using builder gel: "The ideal way to achieve this is with soft builder gels in sheer pinks, which deliver a healthy, plump, natural finish," she notes. She recommends products like Essie's Ballet Slippers, Sugar Daddy, Dazzle Dry's So On Pointe, and Prima Ballerina, as well as Manucurist's Active Blur.

      **Ombré French Manicure**

This is a personal favorite of mine when I want an "invisible" appearance. It looks so natural on the nails and is much quicker to accomplish than a classic French manicure. Gerstein also appreciates this style: "[I enjoy creating looks] with a blurred French edge and glossy natural short nails with scarcely any visible color," she remarks. "They photograph beautifully and complement everyone."

      **Glossy Chrome Nude Nails**

To add a glossy touch to a basic neutral look, a chrome glaze can be added on top. Gerstein enjoys a chrome finish, noting that "a super glossy clear manicure with perfectly manicured cuticles suits the [invisible nail] aesthetic." Motyl states that a natural chrome or pearl finish also provides a subtle glow. "Subtle pearl or natural chrome powders enhance dimension without heaviness," she comments. "These styles are effective because they enhance the hands without attracting excessive attention." OPI's Chrome Effects collection is perfect for this trend, whether you prefer to do your nails at home or have them done professionally.

      **Invisible Soft French Manicure**

Celebrity nail artist Analysse Hernandez, who works with clients like Kim Petras, Madison Beer, and Tate McRae, advocates for the understated yet popular invisible French manicure. "My clients adore the invisible soft French," she says. "It creates a genuinely realistic nail look for extensions. This soft French can easily be achieved with any color blended with milky white. I view it as my favorite method for a simple nail while adding a slight color variation for summer." Shtanhei concurs, stating that this version softens the traditional design. "Standard French manicures can sometimes appear too graphic or formal, but the invisible version feels more contemporary, lighter, and more luxurious," she adds. "It gives structure to the nail, elongates the fingers visually, and perfects the free edge without giving the impression of being painted." Hernandez prefers shades like OPI's Bare My Soul for this style, whereas Shtanhei favors Mineral Fusion's On Pointe.

      **Milky White Nails**

If a conventional French manicure isn’t appealing to you this season, consider wearing a milky white shade alone or paired with a thin French tip. It adds a unique element to your look without being overboard. Though milky white is a lovely neutral shade, Shtanhei suggests considering your skin's undertones to find the perfect mil
