Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape, launches Dukuh Asri — a sustainable development center in Bali.
Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape, proudly presents Dukuh Asri — a sustainable development center located just 150 meters from the hotel. Covering 17 hectares, the space integrates organic farming, cultural exchange, and educational practices, becoming the heart of the resort's gastronomic philosophy based on using local ingredients. Here, guests can observe the cultivation of rare wild plants, sample traditional Balinese palm wine tuak, and immerse themselves in village life.
The project will supply over 2,000 kg of organic products annually — from vegetables to meat and eggs — directly to the resort's kitchen, reducing dependence on external suppliers and decreasing CO₂ emissions by 8.5%. It will also host exclusive programs for guests: harvesting, jungle cooking rituals, traditional Balinese feasts with dance performances, walks through rice terraces, and outdoor picnics.
The project is implemented in partnership with Ketut Sunarka, a local farmer and sustainable development expert. "Agriculture is not just about the harvest. It is the living heart of our culture," says Ketut Sunarka. "We are creating Dukuh Asri as a space where guests and local residents can reconnect with nature, traditions, and a sustainable way of living. This changes not only what is on the plate but also the approach to food, land, and community."
Dukuh Asri has become an integral part of Buahan's long-term sustainable development strategy, reflecting the Banyan Group's mission — caring for the environment and supporting local communities. The resort continues to reimagine luxury as an opportunity to live in harmony with the surrounding world.
About Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape
Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape — is the first-of-its-kind resort from the Banyan Group, setting a new direction in sustainable tourism. Located in northern Ubud, surrounded by jungles, rice paddies, and sacred rivers, it embodies the “no walls, no doors” concept — an architectural and philosophical approach that dissolves the boundaries between humans and the environment.
Each villa is designed according to the terrain (a 132-meter elevation change) and offers panoramic views of seven Balinese peaks. The structures are integrated into the landscape manually, with maximum preservation of trees and natural forms. The resort is surrounded by sacred rivers and a waterfall at Champutan — a place where two rivers converge, symbolizing cleansing and new beginnings in Balinese culture.
