Camila Mendes Discusses Separating Herself from Riverdale and Revealing Her "Most Embarrassing and Unattractive Aspects"

      Have you heard the latest? Camila Mendes is one of the three cover stars for this month's Who What Wear, alongside Jonathan Daviss and Victoria Monét. My colleague interviewed Mendes, covering a range of topics including Riverdale, body image, reaching 30, and a Gwyneth Paltrow–endorsed wellness retreat known as the Hoffmann Process, among other subjects. "I had to detach myself from overly identifying with my role on [Riverdale] and what it represented to others,” Mendes shared with Who What Wear. "I placed a lot of pressure on myself, and I allowed the comments to influence my thoughts too much." Mendes elaborated on how working on other projects outside the teen mystery series helped her "regain [her] sense of self." For her latest role in Masters of the Universe, Mendes focused on building her physical strength to play the warrior Teela, but she also embraced a different type of strength that is equally heroic: vulnerability. “I want my readiness to be vulnerable and to reveal the deepest, most shameful, and unappealing parts of myself through my characters to help others connect with their own emotions," Mendes expressed.
